Dark times were upon them, Aragorn knew that of course he had pledged his allegiance to the fellowship so Frodo could take the ring and destroy it but that would take him away from Rivendell and from Arwen. Aragorn had spent many times in the last few days to speak to Elrond about his daughter but every time he refused to accept his marriage request and today was no exception. The fellowship would leave Rivendell soon and their quest would begin but Aragorn wished they could stay for a while at least. Rivendell had been his home and the place could very well be destroyed in the days to come.
Yes Aragorn was in the gloom sort of moods but it wouldn’t last that long, though he wasn’t sure of it in the long run. Aragorn slowly walked away from Elrond’s chambers and past his own deep in thought Aragorn continued his walk. The afternoon quickly crept up behind him and soon the sun was setting which meant that he had been walking for some time but Aragorn wasn’t worried about it all that much right about now. Everything was moving that much faster but Aragorn stood still as he looked out into the river of Rivendell.
Aragorn stood at the balcony, he saw the path that would take him down to the river but decided that he would stay up here for the time being. Aragorn spotted a seat that he could lay upon and look out into the city of Rivendell. Sitting down Aragorn closed his eyes wondering what was going to happen next, though he sort of knew what must be done but he wasn’t even sure if he wanted to take back the throne or not, the days to come will tell if he was. Aragorn continued laying down as he watched the sunset before him.

Arwen had been filled with worry. So much worry that she had sat in her chambers, thinking of what was going to happen. The Fellowship had been formed and Frodo would take the one ring to Mordor. But that was not what was ailing her on this day. It was the man she loved, he would be leaving her to help Frodo take the ring into the dangers of Mordor. It weighed heavy on her heart and couldn't bare the thought of what might happen. Standing up and leaving her chambers she had to see Aragorn again before he left. Her father had rejected every marriage proposal that Aragorn had made, and it angered her that he did that. Why could he not let her be happy, and be with the man she loved for all these years. It should be her choice on who she gives her heart to, not his. There were nights she often heard her father speaking to other elves, talking about the undying lands and how the rest of her people should make way to it. There would be nothing left for them here since the dark shadows linger over Middle Earth.
Making her way down some stairs and out into the gardens of Rivendell, she glanced around but saw no sign of Aragorn. She then glanced up to catch a brief glimpse of him on a balcony. Heading back up the way she came, Arwen headed up to the balcony and stopped at the top. She caught her breath for just a few seconds and glanced to the man she cared so deeply for. A smile crept across her lips as she walked over to him, the bottom of her dress swishing lightly. As she came closer, she leaned down towards his ear and whispered something in elvish. "Lay mell-on" Which meant I love you in her language. Arwen then moved her face till her lips touched his, closing her eyes and giving him a light kiss. How she wished this moment could just be frozen in time. That all the ages would never be able to touch them, to pull them apart. But Arwen knew he had a duty to fulfill, to help Frodo take the one ring into Mordor.
She lightly pulled back, opening her eyes once more and continued to smile down at Aragorn. Hopefully she wasn't disturbing him from watching something, such as the sunset she knew was behind her. It was just that she wanted to spend as much time with him before he set out, but she knew also that she would always be with him. All he had to do was think about her, and she would appear in his dreams where they could be together. "Does something trouble you? Arwen could see in his eyes that there was something else on his mind beside taking on this quest.

Aragorn’s mind was elsewhere, far from the current place. Aragorn couldn’t understand why Elrond wouldn’t accept the marriage request to Arwen the woman he had always loved. Aragorn wanted to spend the rest of his days here in Rivendell with Arwen but that would mean that the Fellowship would have lost a fellow guardian and that wouldn’t be good, there was so much thoughts that were running through Aragorn’s mind these days. The sunset’s here where a sight to behold, soothing to his thoughts as watched it before him. Aragorn however wouldn’t stop asking Elrond, he wasn’t about to give up on his request to marry Arwen.
Aragorn didn’t hear the footsteps of Arwen walking closer, he was always on the defensive to his surroundings except for times like this one but it was a nice surprise when he looked up to see the woman he was thinking of. Aragorn would never be along or far from Arwen even if he did have to travel to the far corners of this world, Arwen was always in his dreams something that has kept Aragorn going. Aragorn heard the words spoken in elvish and understood them immediately as he knew how to speak the words after all this was once his home for many years.
“I love you to Arwen.” Aragorn replied, though in his own words. Aragorn reached up towards the left side of Arwen’s face and rested his hand on there. Leaning forward Aragorn kissed Arwen back wishing that this would last forever. “I wish your father would accept the request.” Aragorn explained as he replied back to Arwen. “People wish for me to take back the throne of Gondor but I do not know if I should.” Aragorn explained further. Elrond was one of the people that talked to him about it and it had been on the topic of their many arguments that they had these days.

Arwen had thought for many long days, weeks of why her father did not want her to be with Aragorn. Was it because he had turned his back on the throne of Gondor, or was it because he became a Ranger. That he would not make her happy. No it was because if he should become king, and if he came to death. She would live forever and be alone for all the ages of this world, forever wandering under the shadows of the trees. But Arwen believed that would not happen, that she would be happy with Aragorn and they would have a happy life. As she made her way out of her chambers and went to look for Aragorn, it was only when she had caught a glimpse of him on a balcony that she made her way up there. When she had reached the top of the stairs, all she could do was stare at the ranger from a distance. She really did love him, with every fiber of her being. Finally she let her feet move and and the bottom of her dress swished as she moved towards the man she loved. Once she got to his side, Arwen slowly leaned down to whisper the words I love you in his ear.
She had then closed her eyes to give him a kiss, just a light one but filled with passion that she held for this man. Opening her eyes again after, she pulled back and just stared at Aragorn with love. Feeling his hand rest on her left cheek she slowly moved her hand up to rest on top of his. His touch, it was so gentle. She felt like she could melt. Hearing him say that he wished her father could accept the request, she slowly turned her head away. "You know how my father is. As long as the shadows of Mordor linger over Middle Earth, we can't truly be together." It pained her to say those words, she wanted more then anything to just be with Aragorn. But he had a duty to fulfill now. To help Frodo take the ring into the depths of Mordor to destroy it. She placed her hand to the pendant that she had given to Aragorn the night he came back here. As long as they both believed in the promise they made, they would be together again.
As Arwen looked into his eyes, she could see something else weighed heavily on his mind. Asking him what troubled him, she listened to his answer. "You are Isildur's heir, not Isildur himself. You come from a great line of kings, but the choice is yours in the end my love. Arwen knew he would make a great king, all he had to do was step up and take the throne. Pulling herself away from Aragorn, she moved to stand near the edge of the balcony to stare out at the sunset.

All Aragorn wanted was to make Arwen happy and to spend every breathing moment with her but as long as Elrond had his way in refusing in their marriage. Aragorn understood half of it but again he simply just wanted to make Arwen happy and to be with her. Aragorn watched Arwen in silence for a moment as he thought of a reply to give her. Before the fellowship leaves Rivendell and they begin their quest Aragorn would speak to Elrond once more and try and get him to see that he would care for his daughter for as long as they both lived.
Aragorn looked up for only a moment before turning his attention back to Arwen once more. Her words of wisdom always got Aragorn to understand the whole picture rather than the little bits that he could see and that’s one of the many reasons why he loved her so much. “I fear that may be the case Arwen. I’ll continue to hope that when the day finally comes that we can be together without the worries of anything.” Aragorn replied back to her with a smile on his face. The days ahead will test Aragorn to his core though the man hoped that he would survive it all.
Aragorn continued to listen to Arwen as she handed out some more words of wisdom that he needed to hear from her. It was true that Aragorn was nowhere near what Isildur had become and would make a good King for the lands of men but Aragorn had doubts about it in his mind. “Your words speak the truth Arwen, though I’m not entirely sure I can become what everyone thinks I could achieve.” Aragorn explained. There were doubts in his words. “However I’m just glad to be with you tonight.” Aragorn explained further as he stood and walked to Arwen’s side.

Arwen seemed to be lost once more in her own thoughts. She didn't want to be apart from Aragorn for a long time again, this was the first time she had seen him since the last time he parted Rivendell. And that had been when he went off to be a Ranger of the North, and everyday since then she had been hoping he would return. So of course Arwen was happy to see the man she loved come back to a place that was like home to him, but it would only be a short time since he was setting out in the morning with the Fellowship. Hearing Aragorn mention that he wished her father would just accept their relationship, let them be together she gave her words of wisdom to him. As long as darkness hung over Middle Earth, there would be no chance for them to be happy. Only when the one ring has been destroyed and the people can live in peace, can they be together. And also when the crownless again shall be king. The past is something you can put behind you, but also something you cannot run from. What lay ahead in the future is still unwritten and yet to come to pass.
She slowly moved away from Aragorn and went to stand at the base of the balcony. Looking over her beloved home. Though her eyes held fear inside them, mixed with worry she didn't want Aragorn to see. With more words to the Ranger she said that it was his choice in the end. In her heart she hoped he would make the right choice and again take up the crown which was left to him. His people will need a king after everything is said and done, and it was Aragorn who was the only one who can lead them into a time of peace. "Start your journey with Frodo, and see where your path goes from there. For now it is you and the rest of the Fellowship to lead Frodo to Mordor, protect him...till the very end." He would come to that crossroad in his journey where he will decide which path he should take, and Arwen knew he would pick the right one.
Arwen could sense the doubt in his words, but that doubt would be replaced as he took this journey with Frodo and the others. Hearing him come to stand beside her, she slowly glanced over to him. "And I am glad to be with you tonight. Moving in front of him a little, Arwen then hugged Aragorn. He felt so warm, she wanted to remain like this all night if they could.
