Legolas had been filled with a new unrest ever since the Council. Messengers had been sent out this morning to Mirkwood to inform his father that he would not return for a long time. There would be no problems, though. Legolas was the youngest of Thranduil's children and could easily be spared from his duties for an extended period of time. This was way more important, and an honour for Legolas to be included into the Fellowship to represent the Elves.
Preparations were continuing steadily, although without much hurry. Scouts had been sent out on vrious errands and needed to return before Frodo could set out. Meanwhile the year was steadily waning. The flowers in the gardens of Imladris were shining with the last October flowers, a last effort before nature would go into its winter slumber. It was not a good time to set out for a long journey.
Then there was the matter of his companions. Legolas really only knew two of them, one of which he trusted, the other one he trusted completely. A third was on the complete opposite of the scale. Those it would be good to get to know better. Halflings. It was a race that he knew very little about.
So it was that when he spotted Frodo in a chair by the fire one evening a few days after the Council, Legolas headed over to join him. "Would you mind if I join you, Frodo Baggins?" he asked. "Soon we will set out on a journey together, yet we hardly know anything about each other."
